<FONT size=4>Many of you feel very nervous when meeting a foreigner for the first time. Actually, there is nothing to be afraid of. Foreigners are also nervous, too. They don't know how to communicate with you, either. If they know you can speak a little English, they would be very happy to talk to you, no matter you speak good English or not. So when you meet a foreigner for the first time, don't always say: My English is poor. Actually, they think you're better than them because you could speak  their language but they can't talk in your mother tongue.</FONT>
<FONT size=4>Well, as we know, we shouldn't ask them about something too personal, like income, home phone, bank information and so on.  So how to make a smooth talk with a foreigner when you meet them for the first time? My suggestion is to start with something like " Is it your first time to visit China? "  " What do you think of (China, city, food, weather, scenary and so on)"  " How's (weather, traffic, life style and so on) in your country?"  Try to ask questions is most important since it could help great to start communication between you and the foreigners. And that way, you could say little but listen a lot. A smooth conversation will definitely go on for a while.</FONT>
<FONT size=4>Of course, you'll have to keep as many as words relate to our daily life in your mind to help do a good talk with foreigners. That requires hard work and perseverance. But believe me: it really pays off.</FONT> <br><br><br>

<FONT face=Arial size=4>    Very glad to see your post here.  As you said,how to communicate with foreigners is a big problems for we Chinese people.  We are always afraid of expressing ourselves when we are confronted with the foreigner.  Any failure of improper use of English will be taken as a big shame by us.  In fact there's no need of worring about that.  For if we really want to talk with foreigners, they will exert theriselves to uderstand what you mean and will never tease at your mistakes. If only you can make you understood, it's O.K. And vice versa foreigners also wanna speak simple and applied word to let you understand them. </FONT>

I meet a foreign friend 2 months before,it is hard to chat with him,because he is <FONT size=4>akistani,not so good at English,so do I,I felt very embarrassed </FONT>because I don't know how to talk with him,then I picked up a reason that my <FONT size=4>colleague was looking for me,</FONT> <FONT size=4>defeated and flee</FONT> [em04]

The courage is most important! I ride in a carriage go home. Runs into two foreigners on the public transportation, a translation, they converse the content, I am basic all can understand, but is does not have the courage to exchange with them. Ha-ha, a little was a pity.[em09]
but next time.i will try my best!will wait and see.

<FONT size=4>It's a piece of cake to keep in mind that your willingness to talk with the foreinger in their own language just shows your friendliness and hospitality, and the foreingers will certainly be happy to hear their own language, though you might not speak it as well as they do.</FONT>
<FONT size=4>After all, you are by no means native speakers. What matters is your attitude rather than your capacity, say, your willingness to communicate with them in their own language instead of your competence to speak good English.</FONT>
<FONT size=4>Next time, when you talk with a foreiner, just keep smile, and say what you want to say, except these personal questions, such as women's age, being married or single, salary, religous belief and some sensitive political issues.</FONT>

I would like to emphasize:
When you talk to a freigner, grammer is not important at that moment. To make yourself clear to him is the key issue.

dont be afraid..he's not gonna eat u ...the first thing u should do is to forget the grammar stuff...open ur mouth and speak even when u can only remember one word...then u will find it's not a big deal making some mistakes...trust urself...mistakes make progress...
