rectify: implies a more effective action to make something conform to a rule or standard of what is right, just, or properly controlled or directed: a major error in judgment that should be ~ied at once.       对文革的拨乱反正用这个词rectification，又如only an act of Congress could rectify the situation只有国会法案才能扭转这种形势   


emend: specifically implies correction of a text or manuscript: ~ the text to match the first edition.


remedy: implies the removing or making harmless of a cause of trouble, harm, or evil: set out to ~ the evils of the world.      （remedy 1、解决办法the way of dealing with or improving something unpleasant，如there is no simple remedy for unemployment/this problem失业/这一问题没有简单的解决办法，如legal remedy法律手段(途径) 2、治疗方法或药物a treatment or medicine，如a herbal/home remedy草药/家庭疗法）


redress: implies making compensation or reparation for an unfairness, injustice, or imbalance: we must ~ past social injustices.       (compensation, reparation都是补偿赔偿，没有发现日常使用的区分。redress常表示纠正并赔偿)   


amend: implies making corrective changes that are usually slight: a law that needs to be ~ed.            如the First Amendment to the Tenth Amendment are also known as The Bill of Rights第一修正案到第十修正案又称为权利法案


reform: implies corrective changes that are more drastic: plans to ~ the entire court system.      drastic剧烈severe and serious，如drastic measure/action/cuts剧烈措施/紧急行动/大幅削减     如改革开放the reform and opening to the outside world是关键一步is the key step


revise: suggests a careful examination of something and the making of necessary changes: forced to ~ the production schedule.     (还表示复习to read books and notes again in preparation for an exam , 如I have to revise for maths exam我得复习数学准备考试，如 I'm revising geography today我今天复习地理)   来自拉丁词根VIS=to see


correct改正: 采取行动消除错误缺点偏差缺陷，rectify改正: 更有效的行动，使符合标准规则等，emend修订: 特指改正文本手稿，remedy改正补救: 消除或改正邪恶伤害麻烦的根源，redress补偿: 补偿或赔偿之前的不公平正义，amend修正: 微小的改正，reform改革:更剧烈或彻底的改正，revise修订校订: 仔细检查后作出必要的改正
