Huang Ying, a second-year graduate student at Sichuan University who uses a wheelchair, went viral with her fitness training videos. Her well-defined muscles and confident, positive attitude have earned her millions of likes and widespread acclaim online.

In mid-October, Huang went to Shanghai to participate in a bodybuilding competition and won first place in the women's wheelchair category.

I hope that through competing in these events, I can show other people with disabilities that they too can express themselves through sports and exercise.

In a previous interview, Huang Ying shared that a car accident two years ago left her with a spinal cord injury. She went through emotional turmoil, but her refusal to succumb to fate gradually helped her emerge from the shadows of trauma.

She said her family, friends, and even her dog provided tremendous support, slowly piecing her broken spirit back together and helping her become a more complete version of herself.

I started working out again around the Chinese New Year this year. Using a wheelchair is simply a different way of moving. I loved fitness before, and that hasn't changed.

The biggest challenge is probably the psychological one. For example, the amount I could push or pull before is now less than one-tenth or one-fifth of what it was. When I started working out again this year, I found I could only lift 2.5 kilograms or 5 kilograms. It feels like starting from zero.

Mentally, it's a bit more challenging. I still need to overcome it, and slowly adapt and adjust.

In places like gyms, some equipment is positioned too high for someone in a wheelchair to reach.

Sometimes, before entering a public space, like a plaza or a shopping mall, we encounter stone posts or other barriers. The initial design was probably just to prevent electric bikes or bicycles from entering, but it also ends up blocking wheelchair users and people with strollers.

In daily life, some places have ramps, but they're often too steep. It's risky to go up them by ourselves — it's easy to tip over backwards.

What I want to say is, we shouldn't keep dwelling on things that have already happened and what we have lost. If we flip the coin over, we might see a stronger, better version of ourselves.
