trite: applies to a once effective phrase or idea spoiled by too long familiarity: "you win some, you lose some" is a ~ expression.       spoil原指食物变质、小孩被娇惯,可泛指"使变得不好"

hackneyed: applies to what has been worn out by overuse as to become dull and meaningless: all of the metaphors and images in the poem are ~.       wear out磨损       dull和meaningless沉闷无意义,意思和trite完全相同,没有译出

stereotyped: implies falling invariably into the same imitative pattern or form: views of American Indians that are ~ and out-of-date.                stereotype本义是印刷用的铅版,形容模式化的印象观念,如本例对印第安人的刻板印象,又如新四第5篇中he is the stereotyped monster of the horror films and the adventure books他(指大猩猩)是恐怖电影和冒险小说中固定化的怪物形象

threadbare: applies to what has been used or exploited until its possibilities of interest have been totally exhausted: a mystery novel with a ~ plot.

shopworn: suggests a loss from constant use of qualities that appeal or arouse interest: used phrases too ~ to generate any interest or convey any praise.

trite陈腐: 因熟悉太久无趣,hackneyed也是陈腐: 因使用过多,stereotyped刻板印象: 固定化的印象观念,threadbare陈腐: 同trite、hackneyed,shopworn陈腐: 同上
