A 46-year-old woman was forcibly removed from the Qizhong Tennis Center on Wednesday after repeatedly screaming and disrupting play at the ATP 1000 Shanghai Masters, forcing a temporary suspension of a match.
She later received administrative penalties for her behavior, Shanghai police announced late last night.
The incident took place during the afternoon clash between Italy's Matteo Berrettini and France's Adrian Mannarino. Eyewitnesses said the woman unleashed a series of piercing screams that echoed through the stadium, distracting players and unsettling spectators.
Videos circulating online showed the woman shouting from the stands and making provocative gestures toward security personnel. Despite multiple warnings from on-site police officers, she refused to cooperate.
As the situation escalated, several security staff intervened to restrain her and get her away from the stands. Following her removal, the match resumed without further interruption.
