A sudden downpour at Zhejiang University of Technology's opening ceremony on Sept 3 sparked a viral moment, when two students rushed onstage to shield the university president with umbrellas — only for rain to slip through a gap and drench the president's head.
A freshman attending the ceremony said that other faculty members had initially offered the president a raincoat, which he politely declined. As the rain grew heavier, the two students rushed to the stage with the umbrellas, creating the now-viral scene. The freshman also noted that all students had been provided with raincoats and ginger tea.
The university's publicity department confirmed the anecdote, saying the students acted spontaneously as they saw that the president's clothes were soaked. The president's speech was scheduled to kick off the ceremony, followed by several other activities. However, the sudden rain led to the cancellation of the remaining events, allowing students to return home earlier than planned.
