For many, the shower is a safe space to release emotions, with tears mixing silently into the hot water. But this private ritual may carry hidden risks.
The salt in tears is much higher than in normal body fluids. Combined with hot water, it can damage the delicate skin around the eyes, leading to redness, stinging, and even dark circles. Some report waking up feeling as if their skin was scraped.
More concerning, crying in a hot, enclosed space may trigger hyperventilation, dizziness or even chest tightness, especially for those with heart conditions. Poor ventilation and emotional distress can also make breathing harder.
Repeated crying in the shower may lead to emotional conditioning, where the bathroom itself becomes a trigger for sadness, and what starts as comfort can turn into a compulsive emotional loop.
The shower is meant to be a place of comfort — a moment to unwind and breathe. If the urge to cry often occurs to you while in the shower, perhaps it's a quiet reminder that your emotions need more care.

▌take / have a shower
在表达洗澡时,我们通常用take a shower或者 have a shower。
After taking a shower, she laid in bed and read for a while.
▌give sb. a bath
I have to give my baby a bath. She is already drenched in sweat.
▌hit the shower
After a workout, I will hit the shower.
▌cry
She couldn't help but cry when she heard the touching story.
▌sob
The little boy began to sob loudly after losing his way in the crowd.
▌burst into tears
On hearing that her pet dog had passed away, she burst into tears.
