Cambodian and Thai soldiers clashed in several areas along their border on Thursday, leaving at least 11 civilians dead, in a major escalation of a row between the two neighbors.

Both nations accused each other of starting the military clashes and have downgraded their diplomatic relations since Wednesday. Thailand also sealed all land border crossings with Cambodia.

据环球时报、中新网等援引泰媒消息，已被停职的泰国总理佩通坦就当前泰柬局势发声，她在接受采访时一度哽咽，含泪谴责柬埔寨向泰国平民区域开火。

Thai Prime Minister and Culture Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, visibly emotional, condemned Cambodia for opening fire across the Thai-Cambodian border, injuring civilians on Thursday morning.

佩通坦表示，泰方从一开始就不希望冲突升级，但既然事态已发生，军方已做好一切应对准备保护国民。她表示，这次冲突中是柬埔寨方面先开火，政府之所以未立即反击，是不愿造成伤亡。

She stressed that the situation had surpassed the diplomatic negotiation phase, highlighting that the Thai government and military had always sought peaceful methods. However, Cambodia's actions have left Thailand with no choice but to respond.

Despite the criticism regarding the delay in response, she insisted that Thailand’s primary goal has always been to avoid bloodshed.

"We have always respected international protocols, but now Cambodia has forced our hand. We may have to take actions we have tried to avoid in the past," she said. Paetongtarn emphasised the importance of national unity and the military's readiness to protect the country and its citizens.

佩通坦表态说，面对冲突升级的可能性，泰国军队已经做好充分准备部署部队，以支援边境地区的士兵和公民。尽管泰国政府仍然致力于通过外交渠道解决问题，但并不会容忍平民再次受到伤害。

Addressing the possibility of escalating measures, Paetongtarn explained that while military retaliation remains an option, the government continues to focus on diplomatic efforts. However, she made it clear that Thailand would no longer accept the situation escalating to further harm civilians.



柬埔寨首相洪玛奈则发文称，“泰国军队对柬军阵地发动攻击。”洪玛奈称，“柬埔寨一贯坚持和平解决问题的立场，但在这种情况下，柬埔寨别无选择，只能以武力回应。柬埔寨政府将在军事和外交方面捍卫国家主权、领土完整及民族最高利益，并为受冲突影响的公民提供帮助。”

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Thursday urged his country's citizens living in Thailand to "maintain their morality and dignity" and to return home if they are "facing pressure from discrimination".

柬埔寨参议院主席洪森24日也作出类似表态称，泰国士兵开始攻击柬军，柬军别无选择，只能进行反击。他敦促民众不要恐慌，不要囤积商品，并呼吁商贩不要提高商品价格。

Cambodia's powerful former leader Hun Sen said the country had "no choice but to fight back" against Thailand, as he urged the public to remain calm and avoid panic buying.

根据泰国军方的声明，柬埔寨军队在有争议的达莫安通寺附近地区开火。据称柬埔寨在向该地区派遣携带重型武器的军队之前还部署了无人机。

No negotiation with Cambodia can take place until fighting along the border ends, Thailand's caretaker Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said.

The acting premier said there had been no declaration of war and that conflict was not spreading into more provinces, according to Reuters.

He added that Cambodia had fired heavy weapons into Thailand without clear targets, leading to civilian deaths.
