2024年伦敦突破能源峰会致辞

Thank you to Bill Gates and BreakthroughEnergy for bringing together this brilliant collection of investors, philanthropists, and environmental innovators and for inviting me to join you today.

For me a big partof this week is about celebration. Celebrating the incredible minds that are working all around the world, night and day, on climate solutions; celebrating the individuals and organisations who are supporting them; and celebrating the progress we have already made.

Back in 2020, inspired by the wealth ofclimate creativity and innovation I saw in the United Kingdom and around the globe, I started having conversations about how to mobilise the enormous power of innovators to repair and regenerate our planet by 2030.

早在2020年，我在英国和全球各地看到了大量的气候创意和创新，深受启发，于是我开始讨论如何调动创新者的巨大力量，在2030年之前修复和再生我们的地球。

Fast forward four years, and The EarthshotPrize and its partners have identified over 3,000 of the best environmental solutions - scouring every corner of the planet.

We have spotlighted 45 solutions with thepromise of global impact as Finalists for TheEarthshot Prize. And we will celebrate another 15 Finalists later this year in Cape Town.

It is in part thanks to those who believedin us in those early days that we have beenable to get to where we are today. The support of Breakthrough Energyas one of our Founding Partners has been crucial to the success of the Prize.

For me, the magic behind thesuccess we have enjoyed so far has been the powerful model for growth that we’ve built. We’re not only discovering, selecting, and awarding transformative solutions from around the world, we’re also shining a light on them, introducing them to networks of influence and resources and providing them with vital communities of support.

As well as awarding £15million in Prize money to date,we have helped catalyse £70 million in additional investment in support of our Finalists by leveraging our close partnerships and expansive networks.

This is why I believe platforms like The EarthshotPrize and Breakthrough Energy are so criticalto accelerating, replicating, and scaling solutions like the ones here today. It’s nosurprise that many of Earthshot Prize Finalists and Winners are also Breakthrough Fellows.

Together with the support of The EarthshotPrize and Breakthrough Energy, environmental solutions like Circ’s recycled fabrics, 44.01’s natural carbon capture technology, and Takachar’smobile bioreactors are all on a fast track to deliver real impact around the world.

This is what gives me hope that we are takingthe right steps to repair our planet. Circ has partnered with some of the world’s biggest fashion brands to start to tackle the massive challenge of textile waste.

44.01 is working with national governments to remove carbon pollution from the air and store it safely underground. And Takachar is working with the World Food Programme to reduce crop waste and create additional income for rural farmers. And they’re just getting started.

Today we celebrate the innovators,entrepreneurs, and optimists, as well as the allies and investors providing the necessary support along their journey to scale. Together we will create a sustainable future for generations to come.
