The story of Guo Enhui, a student from Henan province who dropped out of Peking University (PKU) only to gain admission to Tsinghua University a year later, has ignited widespread discussion across Chinese social media.

On Sunday, the topic surged to the top of Weibo's trending list, prompting Guo to address the controversy in a detailed public post.



据了解，2019年，郭恩惠以669分考入北京大学医学院护理专业。

综合极目新闻报道，“上第一堂礼仪课时，老师发了护士服和帽子，让我们戴着相互交流，我突然意识到这不是我热爱的行业。”他回忆，自己从小成绩优异，更向往工科和互联网领域，当天便申请退学。父母支持他的决定，他随即返回河南复读。

According to Jimu News, Guo was admitted to PKU's School of Nursing in 2019 with a score of 669/750 on China's national college entrance exam (gaokao). His journey took an unexpected turn during his first class.

"At the etiquette lesson, we were given nurse uniforms and hats to communicate. It suddenly struck me—this wasn't the field I loved," Guo recalled. Having excelled academically since childhood, he aspired to pursue engineering or internet-related disciplines. He submitted his withdrawal application that same day with his parents' support, and returned to Henan to retake the gaokao.



2020年，郭恩惠以716分考入清华大学能源与电气类专业。

“有人说我是天才，其实我只是比较努力。”进入清华后，他更深刻体会到“人外有人”，“这里有太多天赋型选手，名校平台让我想开拓眼界、实现梦想。”

In 2020, Guo achieved an exceptional score of 716/750 and secured admission to Tsinghua University's Department of Energy and Power Engineering.

"Some call me a genius, but I'm just diligent," he said. At Tsinghua, he encountered "countless naturally gifted peers", deepening his appreciation for the platform elite universities provide: "They broaden your horizons and empower you to chase dreams."



郭恩惠称，选择学医并非家庭逼迫，“我来自焦作农村家庭，父母文化水平有限，当初报北大是因为没系统研究专业，服从调剂后被护理专业录取。”

他坦言，填报志愿时过度看重名校光环，忽视了专业与兴趣的匹配，“退学不是光荣的事，一年时间也是浪费，不建议效仿”。

九派新闻报道，对于网友“挤占名额”的质疑，他表示：“我暂时没有想到反驳的理由，但是对于当时的我来说，选择北大的护理专业就是一个深渊。我觉得我应该是有权利退后一步的，所以对于当时的我来说，我只能这么着。”

Guo clarified that his initial choice of medicine was not driven by family pressure. "Coming from a rural family in Jiaozuo, my parents had limited education. I applied to PKU without thoroughly researching majors and was assigned nursing through discretionary admission," he explained.

He admitted prioritizing "prestige" over personal fit—a decision he now cautions against: "Dropping out isn't honorable. Wasting a year isn't advisable, and I don't encourage others to follow my path."

Responding to online criticism about "taking up a spot" from another candidate, Guo told Jiupai News: "I can't refute that argument. But for me then, PKU nursing felt like an abyss. I believe I had the right to step back."



对于即将填报志愿的高考生，郭恩惠建议：“一定要充分了解专业内容，想明白自己要走的路，别将就。如果没有特别喜欢或擅长的专业，就选生存能力强的方向，因为大学最终要对接社会需求。”

值得注意的是，在清华上大二时，郭恩惠又从电力工程专业降级转到了软件工程专业，在清华待了5年。目前，郭恩惠正在北京实习，9月将开启清华研究生阶段学习。

他说，现实中的大学没有影视作品里的悠闲，任何领域的深入都需要艰辛努力，但名校给了他看世界的机会，“愿每个考生都能在热爱的领域发光”。

有媒体评论称，一个人如果早早地想明白自己热爱什么、想做什么，那么他的人生显然要比大多数人开阔、稳健得多。然而，早早地认识自己，说起来很容易，事实上又是一件如此困难的事情。终归还是“不将就”成全了郭恩惠。
