The British novelist who wrote "The Day of the Jackal" has died. Frederick Forsyth was 86 years old.

Forsyth served as a Royal Air Force pilot before becoming a reporter. He worked in Paris, East Berlin and Nigeria as a correspondent for Reuters and BBC. He began writing thrillers based on his experiences.
"The Day of the Jackal" was about an attempt to assassinate French President Charles de Gaulle. It was later made into a popular movie.
