Chinese food manufacturer Baixiang Food Group has issued a formal apology after social media users raised questions about its use of the trademark "Duo Ban" (meaning "half more") on packaging for its noodle products. The controversy rapidly became a trending topic online.
The discussion began when consumers shared images online highlighting that "Duo Ban" is displayed as a registered trademark of Baixiang Food Group on the back package. This led to widespread speculation.
In a statement released on Wednesday evening, Baixiang Food Group clarified its product specifications. The company explained that its current products carrying the "Duo Ban" trademark feature 110-120g noodle portions, which are larger than the original standard 70g offering. Separately, its "Duo Yi Ban" (meaning "more than half") product line contains 100g portions based on an original 60g standard size.
Baixiang stated that the "Duo Ban" trademark was originally registered to clearly differentiate these larger-portion products from its regular-sized items, aiming to simplify consumer selection. The food manufacturer further committed to promptly adjusting the packaging design of its "Duo Ban" products to prevent future consumer confusion.
