first of all, i wanna ask if you are a student who just begins learning english? if you are, just do what your teacher tells you to. everything has its own reasons to exsit in this world.

second of all, from your words, i dont think you are green in english learning. you may be one of the folks of a student encountering some kind of reciting thing or you are a student who may know some english in a way. so, personally, you should assess this reciting thing rationally. every one has his own way of learning things, maybe reciting articls would not work for you at all, but you know what, what teachers do is to teach different kids a way of learning so that he has to use a common way, such as reciting and then kids shouldadjust the way of their learning so as to make the means helpful.

last, helpful or nor, it all depends. anyway, practice makes perfect, and recitng doesnt do harm to you.

babies just learn their mather tongue after repeating and remembering what people around them said,which means that reciting is a good way for language learning.

Reciting is helpful for beginners to get a feel of talking and writing right English. If you keep doing that, your English will be improved fast. But one thing please remember, you have to use those sentences you recite as often as possible. Otherwise, you get nothing from it.
