[00:05.56]Weather experts say this spring was the warmest in the United States in the past century.

[00:13.66]They say the average temperature across the United States between March and May was about thirteen degrees Celsius.

[00:23.07]That reportedly is two-tenths of a degree higher than the old record.

[00:28.97]Officials with the National Climatic Data Center announced the findings.

[00:34.53]The center is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

[00:40.07]The new report says more than 64% of the United States

[00:47.78]was much warmer than normal during the three-month period ending in May.

[00:53.37]It says less than 1% of the country was much cooler than normal.

[00:59.77]The weather experts add that thirteen of the past sixteen spring seasons in the United States have been warmer than normal.

[01:11.05]The report says average weather conditions across the United States mainland

[01:17.58]were drier than normal during the three-month period.

[01:21.89]This was only the third spring since 1989 that the country received less rainfall than normal.

[01:30.96]The National Climatic Data Center also reported above average temperatures in many other areas during this period.

[01:41.43]Some of the warmest conditions were observed from Kazakhstan south across Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran.

[01:51.02]The report says these areas have received little if any rainfall during the past three months.

[01:59.14]Higher than normal temperatures were noted in much of central and eastern Europe and northern Africa.

[02:07.74]However, cooler than normal conditions were observed across large areas of Australia,

[02:14.43]South Africa and South America.
