1. 表示“直接地”，与“间接地”相对，指没有中间环节的影响等。如：

还可表示“直率地”“直截了当地”。如：

He answered me very directly and openly. 他非常坦率地回答了我。

He refused to say directly what he thinks. 他拒绝直截了当地说出他的

2. 表示“恰好”“正好”。如：

Directly in front of them stood a great castle. 一座巨大的城堡就矗

立在他们面前。

The man you are looking for is in the shop directly opposite. 你找

的那个人就在对面的商店里。

3. 在英国英语中，既可表示“立即”“马上”，也可表示“不久以后”。如

：

Come here directly. 马上过来。

I will be there directly. 我很快就到。

在没有特定上下文的情况下，可能有歧义。如：

I will start directly. 我马上动身（或我不久将动身）。

4. 在英国英语中，可用作连词，与as soon as相似，通常位于主句之后，有

时也可位于主句之前。如：

I went home directly I had finished work. 我一干完工作就回家了。

Directly I walked in, the door I smelt smoke. 我一进门，就闻见了烟

味。

5. direct与directly均可用作副词表示“径直地”“直接地”，但direct

通常只位于动词之后，而directly则可位于动词之前或之后。如：
