急 智

At the battle of Chancellorsville in 1863, the Confederate army's attack sent many Federal soldiers fleeing in confusion. Six of them, who belonged to the same company, were cautiously groping through a brushwood when the roar of a volley on their front showed that they had encountered an enemy. Fortunately, none of them was hurt.

Corporal Matt Jenkins, the squad's ranking officer with a big voice which sounded like a major-general's, shouted out: "Reserve your fire, men!" and then gave orders to Captain this and Major that and Colonel someone else, as if he was in command of a brigade.

"Thunder!" said someone in the party they had encountered. "You needn't make all the fuss. We'll surrender!"

And then, about twenty of Jenkins's own company, including the Captain, came in and surrendered to Jenkins.

一八 六 三 年 钱 瑟 勒 斯 维 尔 之 役 ， 美 国 北 军 被 南 军 攻 击 ， 不 少 狼 狈 溃 逃 。 有 六 个 隶 属 同一 连 的 逃 兵 在 灌 木 林 中 悄 悄 摸 索 前 行 ， 迎 面 忽 然 枪 声 大 作 ， 一 排 子 弹 射 过 来 ， 显 然遇 上 敌 人 ， 侥 幸 的 是 他 们 都 没 有 受 伤 。

六 人 之 中 军 阶 最 高 的 马 特 ． 詹 金 斯 下士 说 话 向 来 声 似 洪 钟 ， 听 来 像 一 名 少 将 。 他 喊 道 ： 「 伙 计 ， 且 慢 开 火 ！ 」 然 后 向 甲上 尉 、 乙 少 校 、 丙 上 校 发 号 施 令 ， 仿 佛 手 下 有 一 旅 士 兵 。

对 方 有 一 人 说 ： 「 他 妈 的 ， 你 不 必 那 么 大 阵 仗 ， 我 们 投 降 就 是 。 」

约 二 十 人 走 了 进 来 向 詹 金 斯 投 降 。 他 们 都 是 詹 金 斯 所 属 那 个 连 的 人 ， 包 括 上 尉 。
