A Japanese hair salon was ordered to pay 240,000 yen (1,200 pounds) in compensation this week after a female customer sued the hairdresser for cutting her hair too short and dying it the wrong colour.
A Tokyo court agreed with the 27-year-old cabaret club hostess's claim that the unflattering hairstyle had affected her ability to do her job, the English language Daily Yomiuri newspaper said on Thursday.
"Hairstyles are a major influence on appearance," the paper quoted Judge Yuki Mizuno as saying in the ruling. "A hairstyle is a selling point for a cabaret club hostess and there was a period when her self-confidence was affected when she waited on customers."
The woman had claimed 6 million yen in compensation, partly to cover the cost of extensions, the paper said. |
