WORDS & EXPRESSIONS

1.

Dan: You're gonna skip out on your family reunion? I appreciate the commitment to the game…

Nate: No, listen, man, I'm not gonna go pretend to bond with the people who shut me and my mom out when my dad got busted.

skip out on (somebody): to suddenly leave someone, skip out (on / of something): to avoid something

shut somebody out: to prevent someone from being a part of something

2.

Bex: Lily... I just want to thank you for handling this so gracefully...the whole Rufus thing... the whole "Rufus and I used to date" thing? Oh, god. Please tell me that I'm notputting an enormous foot in my mouth. He told you, right?

put one's foot in one's mouth: to say something that you regret; to say something stupid, insulting, or hurtful.

3.

Dan: It's flying low. There must be a hospital nearby.

Tripp: It's not a medevac. It's, uh, grandfather's ride.

4.

Chuck: What are you doing with this insect?

Blair: Having the time of my life. Thank you very much.

Chuck: Well, as much as I enjoy bursting your bubble, he's just using you to get at me.

Someone who is extremely ignorant.

get at: 报复我,让我不爽,irritate/ bother/ annoy.

5.

Chuck: I'm the one trying to help you.

Blair: Help me? Is that what you were doing at your little gentleman's club while my life was going up in flames?

my life was going up in flames: 我生活在水深火热中

6.

Grandfather: So tell me, Nathaniel, what are your plans next year?

Nate: Well, I'm waiting to hear back from colleges. The only thing is, when everythingwent down with my father, it was around the time applications were due. So I didn't exactly knock the essays out of the park.

go down: 倒下,垮台,破产

it was around the time: 正好是……

knock it out of the park: 来源于棒球比赛中的本垒打,意思是完成一件很了不起的事情,让被人瞩目的事情。

7.

Blair: Do you know how exhausting it's been being Blair Waldorf for the past 18 years…all the work, the planning?

Serena: You mean plotting?

Blair: Yes, exactly. I'm glad it all blew up in my face. It was a wake-up call. I was such anoverachiever. I was headed for a quarterlife crisis at 18.

Serena: Oh, B. You've had a couple of setbacks, but there must still be a way to get into a great college, and if anyone can do it, it's you.

Blair: No, S., I've learned the hard way. I can't control everything, plan everything. Now with carter's help, I'm trying something different.

blow up in my face: if a plan or situation blows up in your face, it has a bad effect on you instead of the result you expected.

learn/ find out something the hard way.: to learn something by experience, especially by an unpleasant experience.

8.

Lily: Do you think he'll judge?

Serena: I think you should just sneak a peek at his little black book before you drop theyellow pages on him. Just make sure your numbers are on par.

black book: 黑名单,a book containing names of people or organizations to blacklist.

on par: equal to someone or something. Your effort is simply not on par with what's expected from you.

9.

Rufus: It's just, well, I'm relieved...please don't take that the wrong way.

Lily: Oh, no.

Rufus: It's just you've dated more people than I have, and I wasn't sure that we'd be in the same ballpark.

Lily: Well, I'm glad that that is behind us.

don't take that the wrong way:不要误解了,不要想歪了

in the same ballpark: of a similar nature

I'm glad that that is behind us: 事情总算过去了

10.

Dan: Spill it.

Vanessa: Spill what?

Dan: Come on, the minute we dropped Nate off, you just…you clammed up, and you got that look on your face.

Chuck: Well, Dorota tipped me off. She's coming. Maybe she's ready to relaunch herself into blue blood society.

tip somebody off: 泄漏消息

12.

Gossip Girl: The danger with calling someone's bluff is that even if you win...You risk them walking away from the table for good.

call someone's bluff就是不相信对方的bluff, 挑战对方或者提出看对方的牌,to challenge someone to give proof of his or her claims

13.

Nate: Do you remember when you used to make us watch your favorite movies over and over again? Like "Tiffany's" and "Holiday"? It used to drive me nuts.

Blair: Is this a pep talk?

drive me nuts: drive me crazy,

14.

Dan: What? Why are you smiling?

Serena: I don't know. I am mad, but that was invigorating.
