Tracing back to the history of naissance and evolvement of tragedy in both China and West, the thesis elucidates their coherences in the process of evolvement, though far away from each other in space, from the perspective of phylogenesis, therefore, finds out this literary phenomenon’s destiny in the future as well as the economic, political, and cultural origins which effect its existence, development and perishment in history. By analyzing different features of conflicts in Chinese and Western tragedy and social backgrounds which formed these differences, this thesis provides a historical view for a better understanding of different life styles in these two counterparts. Finally, by considering the age we live in to think about how for humanity to lead a beautiful life.
