well ,i think the puzzled sentence is : the man is amess .! i see many person also translate the question you ask ....

for my opinion , the man is a mess might be teanslated as two meaning :一：这是一个邋遢的男人！二：这是一个糟糕的男人。you can choose either meaning according to the special stituation ! hope this translation can be of help to u !
