Reverend Tom Sonack opened "The Open Door" about ten years ago.

"The open Door" is a safe place for street people to go to for socializing,

free clothes, use of computers, food, support, and many other things.

The Reverend was tired of feeling uncomfortable and helpless when he saw people on ethe street.

"The Open Door" was his solution to the problems.

It has moved location a few times but now it is located in the heart of the city and helps approximately 600 people a day.

It is not just for street people but is also a place for people with mental disorders or physical disorders.

Many of the people who use the facility praise the efforts of the staff and the volunteers for creating such a welcoming place.

The Reverend says,"It is important for people living on the streets to have a place to go.

It also helps the residents of the city. It makes them feel safer having less people on the street.

"The staff members at the "The Open Door"are also educators, providing information on drug addiction, and offer counseling services.
