Smoking in your own home in Thailand may now beconsidered a crime, if the smoke is consideredharmful to other people in the house.

在泰国，如果你在家中吸烟且被认为对其他人有害，今后将被视为犯罪。

The new law, Family Protection and DevelopmentPromotion Act, was initiated by the Ministry of SocialDevelopment and Human Security and wasannounced in the Royal Gazette on May 22, 2019.

这项名为《家庭发展及保护法》的新法律由社会发展和人类安全部发起，并于今年5月22日在《皇家公报》上公布。

The law aims at curbing smoking at home which might be hazardous for others' health residingunder the same roof. In that case, it will be considered as 'domestic violence'. The new law cameinto force on August 20.

这项法律于8月20日生效，旨在遏制家中吸烟行为。这种行为可能会对家中共同生活的其他成员健康造成危害，因而，将被视为“家庭暴力”。

According to the center for research and knowledge management for tobacco control, at theFaculty of Medical Science of Mahidol University, there are about 4.9 million households whereone or more family members smoke.

An average of 10.3 million people have unwittingly become passive smokers because they'vebeen inhaling smoke at home. Scientific studies show that passive smokers are at greater riskof being affected by cancer.

Of 75 child patients from houses where smoking is practiced, 76% of them were found to havenicotine traces in their urine, with 43% of them having nicotine content exceeding permissiblelevels.

Smoking at home also "may lead to physical or emotional violence" because of aggressivenesswhen there is a lack of smoking, and might as well ruin relationships between smokers andnon-smoker family members.

According to the new law, anyone who thinks they are affected by domestic smoking canreport to officials concerned so that inspectors will be sent to investigate and take legalaction against the smokers.

根据这项新法律，任何认为自己受到家庭成员吸烟影响的人都可以向有关官员报告，以便政府派检查员调查并对吸烟者采取法律行动。

Once convicted, the court may order a person to receive treatment to quit smoking in anattempt to protect the person's family.

一旦被判有罪，法院可能会命令吸烟者接受戒烟治疗，以保护其家人。

In February this year, Thailand had banned smoking at six of its airports along with a ban inpublic places.

今年2月，泰国在六个机场实施禁烟，并禁止在公共场所吸烟。
