1 Pick up the phone 拿起听筒
To take the phone off the receiver so you can make or answer a call.
eg. She picked up the phone so she could make the call.
2 Call back 回电话
To telephone someone who has called you, or who has left you a message.
eg. If you don’t mind, I'll get her to call you back later? It's just that she's in a meeting at the moment.
3 Put through 接通电话
To connect a caller with another person on another
line/extension.
eg. A: Can I speak to Ms. Barlow, please?
B: Yes, certainly. I'll put you through to her.
4 Get back to someone再与某人联系
To telephone someone who has called you, or who has left you a message.
eg. Please tell him to get back to me as soon as possible.
5 Cut off 切断,中断
If you get “cut off”, the line suddenly goes dead.
eg. We got cut off in the middle of the call.
6 Cut through 打通电话
To be able to reach someone by telephone
eg. I couldn't get through to them because the line was dead.
7 Hold on / hold the line 别挂断
To wait while someone gets another person
eg. Please hold on a second. I'll just go and get him.
8 Hold up 挂断
To put the phone back on the receiver.
eg. She hung up while I was trying to explain the situation to her.
