1. shot n. 努力、尝试

常用搭配：give it a shot, give it your best shot

e.g. I'm not sure if I'll succeed, but I'll give it a shot.

2. a shot in the dark 瞎猜

e.g. Oh, I had no idea you were into guys. It was just a shot in the dark.

3. a long shot 成功希望不大的尝试

e.g. I know it's a long shot, but I'll still tell her how I feel so I won't regret not doing it in the future.

4. like a shot 立刻、飞快

e.g. Once you've made up your mind, you should begin doing it like a shot. There's no time to be wasted.

5. a shot in the arm 强心剂、令人振奋的东西

e.g. My English teacher Shawn told me I could speak English well too. It was a shot in the arm.
