我是最近突然有兴趣看一下传说中的新概念的，在看的过程中，大部分我自己都还可以理解， 但是有几个小点还需要高人指导一下啦！

（1）新概念四册，lesson 8 中第二段中so，ask businesses on both sides of the Atlantic ，why have two lots of tests where one would do ？这句话我可以理解，也知道是一种非常口语化的表达，但是为什么用了where这个词呢？

（2）lesson 11 中but in an old man who has known human joys and sorrows ，and has achieved whatever work it was in him to do 这句话中and 之后的部分，我不理解其中的语法和意义，请帮忙分析一下！

　还有就是最后一句中i should wish to die while still at work ，为什么用了should ?

(3) whether and if 有那些区别？

先到这里，问题还在发现中，希望高人可以帮忙解答一下，不胜感激哦！

定语从句里原来应该使用in which的，常常用where代替。带这样的定语从句的先行词有：

job, family, case, situation, point, test, exam, text, example/instance, etc

I should wish to do sth = I should like to die 我想要干某事 would like/wish的主语是第一人称时可用 should代替，但比较正式。

似乎只有第二个问题没回答了

But in an old man (定语从句1who has known human joys and sorrows），and (定语从句2has achieved （让步状语从句whatever work it was） in him to do） and后部分的意思是完成了他所能做的任何工作。

定语从句里原来应该使用in which的，常常用where代替。带这样的定语从句的先行词有：

job, family, case, situation, point, test, exam, text, example/instance, etc

（2）  中是并列部分吧！
