WeChat has quietly rolled out an interface redesign for its Moments feature, sparking a flurry of online discussion. The topic "Moments Makeover" quickly surged to become the No 1 trending hashtag on China's Weibo platform on Wednesday, as users took to social media to report the changes.
The updated layout was spotted by users running WeChat version 8.0.71 on iOS devices. In the "My Moments" timeline, the most noticeable change is the repositioning of the post's text caption. Previously displayed to the right of images, the text has now been moved above the pictures. The display format for the post's timestamp has also been altered.
In addition to the layout changes, a "Moments Album" button has been added to the top-right corner of the timeline. This new feature allows users to browse their past posts via a year/month/day zoom view, functioning similarly to the browsing logic found in Apple's native Photos app.
In response to user queries about the design shift, Tencent's customer service said that the repositioning of the text is an optimization of the display format.
