A police officer has been attacked and injured by a bear in northern Japan. The bear was put down, but police say a woman's body was found near the scene.

日本北部一名警官遭熊袭击受伤。 肇事黑熊已被击毙，但警方称在事发地点附近发现一具女性遗体。

Police say a vehicle with its engine running was found parked in a mountainous area of Iwate Prefecture on Monday evening.

No one was in the vehicle. They were searching for the driver on Tuesday morning with members of a local hunters' association when they encountered the bear.

One officer was clawed on the face and suffered other injuries. Local officials say hunters killed the bear on the spot.
