Hello, I'm Tom Watts with the BBC News. A volunteer warden at a cathedral in the French city of Nantes has admitted starting a fire that destroyed the building's historic organ. The man who is 39 and a Rwandan refugee faces up to 10 years in prison. Hugh Schofield is in Paris. The man, who is not been named, was the first person police questioned last Saturday, the day of the fire. He'd been in charge of locking the cathedral the night before and as there was no sign of a braking, he was an immediate suspect. He was released after a day of questioning with investigators saying they were satisfied with his answers. But yesterday he was taken back into custody and before a magistrate, he admitted that it was he who carried out the arson. His lawyer said the man bitterly regretted what he done and was relieved that the truth was now out. His motives remain unclear.

The Afghan government has released another 50 Taliban prisoners days after saying it couldn't free any more because they were criminals. The news came as the US special envoy for Afghanistan began a 5-nation tour to press for peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban. Charis Hani reports. Prisoner exchanges will be a key part of Zalmay Khalilzad's discussions in the five countries he visits. They've been a sticking point, preventing the start of talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban. Those talks and prisoner releases form part of a deal signed between the United States and the Taliban in February. Kabul was left out of the discussions and there was no guarantee things would go according to plan. The Taliban says another 850 of their members remain in government prisons, a figure disputed by the authorities.

Southern Texas in the US is bracing itself for heavy rains and flash flooding as a powerful storm continues to move along its coast and into Mexico. Hurricane Hanna has been downgraded to a tropical storm, but he's still bringing winds of up to 115 kilometers an hour.

There's been an angry reaction in Britain to the government's decision to require travelers returning from Spain to go into quarantine for 14 days amid fears of a second coronavirus spike there. Passengers complained the announcement came only six hours before the measure was implemented. Our political correspondent Helen Catt reports on why the British authorities took the decision. The government has always said that it could change the status of countries on this exempt list. When this quarantine policy was brought in last month, it applied to virtually every country in the world. And a lot of MPs worried about the impact that would have on the aviation industry, really agitated to get that relaxed a little and to have some countries where it was deemed safe enough to go, where the quarantine could be removed. And so the government came up with this list of countries which were thought to be of a similar level of risk or lower to the UK in terms of coronavirus. The situation in Spain with that spike has now changed. So that's why the advice has changed. World news from the BBC.
