clawed：claw 当做「名词」，是指鸟、动物的爪子。当「动词」时，是「以爪撕裂」、「以

爪抓紧」、「以爪挖掘」，进而比喻「像是以爪挖出一条路般地努力地前进」。简单地说，就是

「很努力做一件事」。

right at the very end：right，very 都有「恰好就在…的时候」之意。

had trouble making the big play：和have difficulty 一样，have trouble 后面接另一个动词时，要用「动名词」的形式，如本句的making.big play 意指「很重要或很关键性的表现」。

makes us a championship-caliber team：make someone …是「使某人成为…」。caliber 通常指枪、炮的口径，此处是「品质」之意，championship-caliber 就是「具有冠军的品质」。

seal the victory：seal 原是「加上封印（使信件不易再打开）、密封、封缄」之意。引申

的意思是指「确定某事后就不再改变」。当别人告诉你一个秘密，你若保证不会泄露出去，

可以对他说"My lips are sealed." 另外，seal 当「名词」时，有「海狗、海狮」，及「印章、图章、印鉴、玺印」等意思。
