Listen to the tape then answer this question. Who else is in bed today? Why?

DOCTOR：How's Jimmy today?

MRS. WILLIAMS：Better. Thank you, doctor.

DOCTOR：Can I see him please, Mrs. Williams?

DOCTOR：You look very well, Jimmy.

                                        You are better now.

                                        but you mustn't get up yet.

                                        You must stay in bed

                                        for another two days.



DOCTOR：The boy mustn't

                                        go to school yet, Mrs. Williams.

                                        And he mustn't eat rich food.

MRS.WILLIAMS：Does he have a temperature, doctor?

DOCTOR：No, he doesn't.

MRS.WILLIAMS：Must he stay in bed?

DOCTOR：Yes.

                                        He must remain in bed

                                        for another two days.

                                        He can get up

                                        for about two hours each day,

                                        but you must keep the

                                        room warm.



DOCTOR：Where's Mr. Williams this evening?

MRS.WILLIAMS：He's in bed, doctor.

在英文中，如果将一个人或物等与另一个人或物等进行比较，就可以用比较级。在这句话中，威廉斯夫人是把吉米今天的状况和前几天相比。形容词well的比较级形式不规则，意思是“健康状况有所好转”。

2 come upstairs, 上楼，此处upstairs是副词。

3 …you mustn't get up yet.

yet这个词一般用于否定句。get up表示起床，在英语中有不少动词常与介词或副词连用，组成一个词组，称为动词短语；如get up就是一个动词短语。

4 for another two days,

for引导的表示时间的短语往往可以译作“达”，“计”。本课中for about two hours each day可译为“每天可达两小时”。each day是“每天”的意思。

5 keep the room warm, 使房间保持暖和。

【课堂笔记】

一、each和every的区别：

each强调个体；它是adj.&pron.，形容词起修饰限定作用，代词可单独使用；each指两个或两个以上中的每一个。

each boy<adj. >

each of the boys<pron.>

every强调整体；它只能做adj.；every指三个或三个以上的每一个。

every student（不能写为every of the student）

二、don't和musn't的用法区别：

don't和musn't都是助动词，都表示“不”、“禁止”的意思，后面都跟动词原形，它们的主要区别有两点：

（1）don't表示禁止的口气较轻，相当于中文的“不要”、“别”；而musn't表示禁止的口气较重，相当于中文的“禁止，绝对不能”。

（2）don't表示禁止别人做某事的时候一般都是祈使句，因此它经常直接放在句子的开头，而musn't表示禁止时依然是情态动词，前面必须有主语。例如：

Don't talk in the library.不要在图书馆里讲话。

You musn't smoke in the classroom.你绝对不能在教室里抽烟。
