The head of Acer, the fourth largest computer manufacturer by sales, has resigned as a continuing decline in demand for PCs pushed the group into further losses.

全球销售额第四大的电脑生产商宏碁(Acer)首席执行官王振堂(JT Wang)宣布离任计划。PC需求持续萎缩导致该公司再度亏损。

J.T. Wang said he would step down as chairman and chief executive to be replaced as chief by Jim Wong, president.

王振堂表示，他将辞任宏碁董事长，其兼任的CEO职位会由总裁翁建仁(Jim Wong)接任。

The company has struggled to keep pace with the shift from laptop and notebook computers to mobile devices, and has been criticised for not investing enough in successful smartphones and tablets of its own.

该公司近期竭力试图跟上市场从台式机和笔记本电脑转向移动设备的大趋势，并且被批评投资不足，未能推出自有品牌的畅销智能手机和平板电脑。

Mr Wang said the board had been supportive of him, but “I think there should be someone who’s more capable to lead Acer out of its difficulties”.

Acer is not the only PC group to be hit by the decline in PC sales, which were down 9 per cent year on year in the last quarter, according to market researchers Gartner and IDC.

Mr Wang’s resignation came as Acer reported a third-quarter net loss of $442.2m from revenues that fell 11.8 per cent year on year to $3.1bn.

Its share in the PC market has slipped, from 11.4 per cent a year ago to 8.3 per cent last quarter, according to Gartner.
