Some internet users recently noted that when selecting seats on the 12306 ticketing platform, the word "window" next to seats A and F had been replaced with what appeared to be "two walls".

When contacted by a journalist on Tuesday, 12306 customer service representatives clarified that the platform had optimized its seat selection interface. The symbols beside seats A and F are not meant to indicate walls, but rather a vertical line replacing the earlier "window" label. Seats A and F remain on the window side of the train, though they may not always be directly aligned with a window — they could be situated slightly in front or behind one. The update was intended to prevent passenger confusion over whether a seat is truly beside a window.

The change follows earlier media reports of passengers who, after booking what they believed were window seats, found themselves facing a wall without an actual window. Some had called for clearer seat labeling to help travelers make well- informed choices.
