The Indonesian military has announced that a navy submarine missing since Wednesday has sunk. It had 53 sailors on board. Richard Galpin reports. The disappearance of the submarine sparked a major rescue operation earlier this week, with help provided by Australian warships and US Navy aircraft. An oil slick was reported to have been spotted in the area and debris was found. The submarine has now been located at a depth of approximately 850 meters. It's designed to withstand a depth of 500 meters. The navy chief of staff also said oxygen supplies would have run out earlier today for the 53 crew on board who been taking part in a torpedo drill off the coast of Bali.

Doctors at a hospital in the Indian capital Delhi say at least 25 critically ill coronavirus patients have died because of a shortage of oxygen. The hospital's medical director said expected supplies arrived too late. Nikhil Inamdar reports from Delhi.Officials at the Jaipur Golden Hospital have told the BBC that the situation continues to remain precarious. In the morning, there was barely half an hour of oxygen supply left. There are 215 COVID patients in the hospital, 85% of whom are critically ill and in desperate need for oxygen supply. The situation of this hospital is broadly reflective of the supply shortage several other hospitals across India are facing.Special trains and the air force now have been deployed to transport oxygen tanks. India is also airlifting supplies from countries like Singapore and Germany.Another record-breaking daily tally of COVID infections means India has now registered almost a million new cases over the last 3 days.
