UNREAL:极棒的

表示非同寻常的酷。

例句:

I love this party, it's just unreal!

我爱死这个派对了,这个派对太棒了,简直不像真的!

PROPS:支持

表示尊重或认同。

例句:

I know he failed the test, but you've got to give him props for trying.

我知道他考试没及格,但你得给他支持。

KUDOS:荣誉

尊重、认同的同义词。

例句:

Kudos for organizing this party!

这次聚会组织得太好了!

BOTTOM LINE:重点

表示问题的关键。

例句:

The bottom line is we just don't have enough money to make it work.

重点是我们缺少充足的资金使其运转起来。

DISS:无礼

表示不尊重他人的行为。

例句:

Stop dissing her behind her back. Show some respect!

别在背后侮辱她。尊重点人!

DIG:非常喜欢

表示超级喜欢某物。

例句:

Hey, I dig your new style. Where did you buy that T-shirt?

嘿,这身装扮不错,我很喜欢。这件T恤在哪儿买的?

BOB'S YOUR UNCLE:这就行了

一般说来,这句话在英国比较常用,用在句末,相当于“That's it!”。

例句:

-How did you make this cake? It's delicious!

这蛋糕怎么做的?太好吃了!

-Well, I just mixed in the batter thoroughly, poured it into a cake pan, baked it for 30 minutes and Bob's your uncle!

-好吧,我把面粉完全混在一起,然后放进蛋糕盘烤了30分钟,差不多就是这样!

BUDGE UP:让开

请求某人挪动腾出空间。

例句:

I want to sit down too, could you budge up a little please?

我也想坐下来歇歇,您能稍微挪挪吗?

ACE:太棒了;能手

有两种含义:某事很棒很酷;轻易就能做到完美

例句:

Ace! I just got a promotion at work!

太棒了!我升职了!

Robert aced his physics exam!

罗伯特在物理考试中表现优异!

ALL RIGHT?你怎么样?

等同于:Hello,How are U?

例句:

-All right?

最近怎么样?

-Good thanks, you all right?

-挺好的,你呢?

FULL OF BEANS:精力充沛

表示充满能量。

例句:

All the children were full of beans at the party today. I couldn't get any of them to sit still!

今天,参加聚会的孩子们各个精力充沛。我根本没法子让他们坐下来!

BLATANT:显然

表示显而易见的事情。

例句:

She's blatantly very annoyed, everyone can see it apart from you.

显然她生气了,只有你没看出来。

PEAR SHAPED:搞砸了

表示某种东西变成了一团乱。

例句:

I was trying to organize a surprise birthday party for her, but it's all gone pear-shaped!

我想组织一场生日派对,给她惊喜,但是我搞砸了!



PIECE OF CAKE:小事一桩

当人吹嘘或认为某事极其简单时,便会这么说。

例句:

-What did you think of the exam? I thought it was really difficult.

你怎么看待这次考试?我觉得太难了。

-No, it was a piece of cake!

不,我觉得一点也不难。

BLIMEY:啊呀

表达惊奇的感叹词。

例句:

Blimey, look at all this mess here! I'd only left the house for an hour, and look what you've done!

啊呀,看看这一团糟!我才离开家一小时,看看你都做了什么!

FORTNIGHT:十四天

表示两周,“fourteen nights”的简写。

例句:

I've been really ill for the past fortnight, and still haven't recovered.

我病了两周,还未痊愈。

GOBSMACKED:目瞪口呆的

形容大吃一惊。

例句:

I can't believe I passed that exam! I thought I was going to fail, I'm completely gobsmacked!

我竟然通过了考试!原本以为要挂掉了,真让人难以置信!

SPLASH OUT:花了太多钱

花了一大笔钱。

例句:

I wanted to give Sarah a special treat for her birthday, so I splashed out on a very romantic weekend away.

我想为萨拉准备一份特别的生日礼物,于是砸了大笔钱筹备一个浪漫的周末。

GRUB / NOSH:食物

二者均指食物。

例句:

I'm going to get some grub for myself from the local takeaway. Do you want anything?

我要在当地餐馆点些吃的,你想吃什么?

BEE'S KNEES:蜜蜂的膝盖

某事或某人令人难以置信。

例句:

I don't like Harvey very much, he thinks he's the bee's knees!

我不怎么喜欢哈维,他有点不靠谱!

GUTTED:非常疲惫的

某人心烦意乱或失望。

例句:

I'm so gutted I failed my driving test, again!

驾照考试又没过,烦死了!

PEANUTS:微不足道的钱

某物超级便宜。

例句:

I hate my job. I have to work such long hours, and I get paid peanuts.

我讨厌自己的工作。工作时间长,工资又那么低。

HAGGLE:讨价还价

争论,试图协商商品的价格。

例句:

I managed to haggle the price of this shirt down by 25%!

我设法把这件衬衫的价格砍了25%!

JOLLY:很,非常

跟Very一个意思,Jolly good其实就是“Very good”的意思。

例句:

-Don't worry,I will pay you back before the end of this month.

-I should jolly well think so!

-别担心,月底前会还你的。

-我真该这么想!

THROW A SPANNER IN THE WORKS:破坏

破坏某物。

例句:

I managed to keep the surprise a secret, right up until the day before my sister's birthday, and then he threw a spanner in the works by telling her!

我原本打算在姐姐生日那天送出这份惊喜,没想到他却提前告诉了姐姐!

KIP:小憩

打盹,小睡。

例句:

Why don't you try and have a kip before everyone gets here? You won't have time to rest later.

你怎么不在大家来之前小睡一会呢?一会没时间休息了。

WIND UP:取笑/烦恼

有多种含义。如果你做的事“wind-up”,也就是说你在取笑某人。如果你“wind-up”,说明你很烦。

例句:

I was just winding her up for fun, but she took offence to it and got really angry!

我只是为了好玩才逗她,没想到她生气了,真的生气了!



MATE:同伴

朋友、密友、笔友、伙伴。

例句:

I'm going to the cinema with my mates tonight.

今晚我和同伴一起去看电影。

NOT MY CUP OF TEA:非我杯茶

不喜欢某事或某物。陈奕迅的《浮夸》里就有一句歌词是:我非你杯茶 也可尽情地喝吧。

例句:

I don't really like this sort of music. It's just not my cup of tea.

我不喜欢这类的音乐,这不是我的菜。

PORKIES:说谎

说谎。起源于伦敦佬押韵俚语,是“porky pies”的缩写,跟lies谐音。

例句:

Don't listen to her, she's telling porkies!

别听她的鬼话,她在撒谎!

ROW:争论

争论,与“Cow”是谐音。

例句:

My brother had a huge row with his girlfriend yesterday. He's really upset!

哥哥昨天跟女朋友大吵了一架。他真的很生气!

DONKEY'S YEARS:许多年

如果有人跟你说"I haven't seen you in donkey's years",说明你们很久没见了。

例句:

Hi Sarah! What a surprise to see you here. I haven’t seen you in donkey’s years! How have you been?

萨拉!没想到会在这遇见。好多年没见过你了!你怎么样?

EASY PEASY:超简单

一个孩子气的表述,描述某事很容易。

例句:

I could make that for you, if you like? It's easy peasy!

如果可以,我能为你做吗?这很容易!

SORTED:已解决的

如果有人问起一项你已解决的问题,那么你可以这么说。

例句:

-What's happening about that roof leak then?

-Oh that's sorted now. I found a really good builder to do the job.

—那个漏水的屋顶怎么样了?

—噢,这个问题现在已经解决了。我找了一个建筑能手修缮它。

STROP:悲伤

如果有人不开心或难过,那么可以说“being stroppy”或“throwing a strop”。

例句:

Janet, would you please cheer up? It's your birthday, don't be so stroppy!

珍妮特,你能开心点吗?今天是你的生日,别那么悲伤!

CHEERIO:拜拜

This is a friendly way of saying goodbye

说再见的一种友好方式

例句:

Right, I have to go now, see you soon. Cheerio!

好吧,我得走了,再会。拜!

WANGLE:得到

用来描述某人运气绝佳。

例句:

I can't believe he managed to wangle an upgrade on their airline seats, AND the honeymoon suite in their hotel!

他不仅幸运升舱,还住进了酒店的蜜月套房!真是不可思议!

BLINDING:极好的

“a blinding success”,说明某事很棒。

例句:

They had a blinding party after their wedding ceremony. Everyone had such a great time!

结婚典礼后,他们举行了一场热闹非凡的舞会。每个人都很开心。

WONKY:不稳定

不稳的,摇晃的。

例句:

I can't eat my dinner at this table. It's wonky and won't stop wobbling!

这张桌子不稳,摇摇晃晃的,我没法好好吃饭!

ZONKED:劳累的

如果某人“zonked”或“zonked out”,证明他们极度疲累、筋疲力尽。

例句:

He had a lot of fun at his birthday party earlier, but he's completely zonked out now!

他在生日聚会上玩得很开心,不过现在累坏了!

DODGY:可疑的

描述某人或某事不可信任。

例句:

This food looks a bit dodgy, it might have passed its expiry date. I don’t think we should eat it.

这份食物看起来不太对,有可能过期了。我们最好不吃。

LEG IT:

类似"run"或"run for it"。

例句:

I went out on Halloween night, and someone jumped out from behind a bush to scare me. I was so frightened, that I just legged it all the way back home!

我在万圣节夜出门,结果有人从灌木丛后面跳出来吓我!我好害怕,吓得我一路狂奔跑回家!
