去年八月作如梦令两首。

一

他把门儿深掩，

不肯出来相见。

难道不关情？

怕是因情生怨。

休怨！休怨！

他日凭君发遣。

二

几次曾看小像，

几次传书来往，

见见又何妨！

休做女孩儿相。

凝想，凝想，

想是这般模样！

今年八月与冬秀在京寓夜话，忽忆一年前旧事，遂和前词，成此阕。

天上风吹云破，

月照我们两个。

问你去年时，

为甚闭门深躲？

“谁躲？谁躲？

那是去年的我！”

Ci Poems to the Tune of Rumengling

I wrote two ci poems to the Tune of Rumengling in August last year.

She’s closed her door so tight,

Won’t show up in my sight.

Is none of her love remaining?

Or she’s for love complaining?

No more, no more complains!

Someday you’ll take my reins!

At times I’ve seen your pictures,

At times we’ve exchanged letters.

What matters if we meet?

Don’t play a girlie sweet.

She thinks, and thinks astray–

I guess we’ll meet this way!

While I was talking with Jiang Dongxiu at home in Peking one evening in August this year, I remembered what I had written the previous year, and wrote yet another ci poem to the same tune.

The clouds in the sky blow through,

The moon shines on us two.

Why you, one year before,

Kept hiding behind the door?

“Who has? Who ever has?

That was the last year’s lass!”
