[00:00] PROGRAMME 2

[00:03] Text one

[00:07] Profile:

[00:11] Peter Parker

[00:15] With us in the studio this morning is Peter Parker.

[00:20] Good morning, Peter.

[00:24] Good morning.

[00:27] Peter Parker is an English Language teacher.

[00:33] He was always good at languages at school,

so he decided to take his degree in French and German.

[00:40] When he finished his university studies, he began teaching in a secondary school in England.

[00:47] Two years later, however,

[00:51] he met someone by chance who offered him a job teaching English to foreign students

[00:58] during the long summer holidays.

[01:02] His students were adults and he enjoyed the work immensely.

[01:08] He soon found he was more interested in teaching his own language to foreigners

[01:14] than foreign languages to English schoolboys.

[01:20] Since then he has specialised in this work.

[01:25] He has found that one of the advantages of the job

[01:30] is that it enables him to find work almost anywhere in the world.

[01:36] First he went to Africa for two years

[01:41] and then he spent a year in Arabia.

[01:45] After this he went to Greece

[01:50] where he has worked for the last 3 years.

[01:55] He hasn't been to South America yet

[01:59] but he intends to go there next.

[02:03] He has taught men and women of all ages and of various nationalities.

[02:10] He has also learned to get on with all kinds of people

[02:15] and to adjust to different ways of life.

[02:20] So far he has not regretted his decision to follow this career.

[02:26] Now then, Peter, tell me...

[02:31] Text two

[02:35] Holiday plans

[02:39] Have you had your holiday for this year yet, Jane?

[02:44] Not yet.

[02:48] I'm taking it at the end of September.

[02:52] Where are you going?

[02:56] Have you made up your mind?

[03:00] Not really.

[03:04] I thought of going to Spain again,

[03:09] but I've already been there twice and I'd like to try somewhere new.

[03:15] My brother's just gone to Mexico for two weeks.

[03:20] I had a card from him yesterday

[03:25] and he seems to be having a good time.

[03:29] Why don't you go there?

[03:33] That's O.K. for you well-off people, but I couldn't possibly afford it.

[03:40] I'm much too hard up at the moment.

[03:45] The air-fare is quite expensive, I admit,

[03:50] but you needn't spend a lot when you get there.

[03:55] I've already spent a lot of money this year.

[04:00] My flat was done up last month,

[04:05] so I haven't got much to spare for expensive holidays abroad.

[04:11] Oh, I see.

[04:15] Perhaps I'll just go to Scotland or Ireland in the end.

[04:20] I've heard they're both very beautiful,

[04:25] and I haven't been to either of them.

[04:29] We went to Ireland two years ago

[04:34] to pay Jill and her husband a visit.

[04:38] They're in Dublin now.

[04:42] Oh, yes,

[04:46]so they are!

[04:50] If you decide on Ireland

[04:55] you can call in on them.

[04:59] Jill would willingly put you up for a few days, I'm sure.

[05:04] That's a good idea!

[05:09]I haven't seen Jill for more than three years now

[05:14]and I'd like to know how she's getting on.

[05:19] Text three

[05:23] The lost tie

[05:27] Have you seen my new tie, Mum?

[05:32] Which new tie?

[05:36] The red one I bought in London a couple of weeks ago.

[05:41] I wore ittothedinner party at the Dawsons' place on Saturday

[05:47] and I haven't worn it or seen it since.

[05:52] No, I don't think I've seen it this week,

[05:57] but have you looked for it properly?

[06:02] I expect you threw it carelessly into the back of the wardrobe after the party -

[06:09] the way you usually do.

[06:13] I've looked for it everywhere.

[06:17] And it's not in the wardrobe.

[06:21] Have you tidied up my bedroom again

[06:26]and put all my things away in new places where I'll never find them?

[06:32] I always put your ties away in the wardrobe where they belong,

[06:39] so don't blame me.

[06:43] Are you sure you haven't worn that tie since Saturday?

[06:49] No, I don't think so.

[06:53] On Tuesday you went out with Janet

[06:58] and I think you put it on then.

[07:03] You didn't come in until one o'clock in the morning and I was already in bed.

[07:09] Perhaps you took it off in Janet's house and left it there.

[07:15] Ah!I remember now.

[07:20] It was a bit hot and I took my tie off in the car on the way home on Tuesday.

[07:26] I suppose it's still on the shelf under the dashboard.

[07:31] As usual you've only got yourself to blame.

[07:37] It's a good job your head is firmly fixed to your shoulders -

[07:43] otherwise I'm sure you'd lose that too.
