Sam: (picking up the receiver) Hello?
Dr: Hello, Sam. This is Dr. Marsha Fieldstone on Network America.
Sa: Ok, what are you selling tonight? The micro hibachis or the ginsu knives?
Dr: No, I’ m not selling anything. I just want to help. I want you to know that your son called and he asked me for some advice on how you might find a new wife.
Sa: Who is this?
Dr: Dr. Marsha Fieldstone of Network America and you are on the air.
Sa: (to Jonah) you called the radio station?
Dr: Sam, Sam, are you with me?
Sa: Yeah, yes.
Dr: Your son feels that since your wife’s death you’ve been very unhappy and he’s genuinely worried about you.
Sa: (to Jonah) Hey, get out here. Get out here! Come on! Now I’ m not going to go through this alone.
Dr: I think it’s very hard for him to talk to you about all this and I thought maybe you and I could talk. Maybe it would make Jonah feel a little better, Sam?
Jonah: (to Sam) talk to her, dad, she’s a doctor.
Sa: Of what? Her first name could be “Doctor”
Jo: Please.
Dr: Sam. Sam. It’s his Christmas wish.
Sa: Ok.
Dr: Ok. Good. Now I know this is difficult, but how long ago did our wife die?
Sa: About a year and a half ago.
Dr: Have you had any relationships since?
Sa: No.
Dr: No? Why not?
Sa: Ah, Marsha, or should I call you Dr. Fieldstone.
Dr: Dr. Marsha.
Sa: & An: Dr. Marsha.
Sa: I don’t mean to be rude....
Dr: ... and I don’t want to invade your privacy.
Sa: & An: Sure you do.
Dr: Go on, Sam. I’ m listening. Sam?
Sa: We had a pretty tough time there at first...
Dr: Hum-um.
Sa: But we’re dealing with it and Jonah and I will get along just fine again, as soon as I break his radio.
Dr: Ha-ha, I have no doubt that you’re a wonderful father. You know, you can tell alot from a person’s voice.
Sa: You certainly can.
Dr: But something must be missing if Jonah still feels you’re under a cloud. Now just a few questions. Are you sleeping at night? Now just a few questions. Are you sleeping at night?
Jo: He doesn’t sleep at all.
Sa: How do you know that?
Jo: I live here, dad.
Sa: Look, it’s Christmas. Maggie, my wife, she really did... I mean, she loved... she made everything beautiful. It’s just tough this time of year. Any kid needs a mother.
Dr: Could it be that you need someone just as much as Jonah does?
Annie: Yes.

1. invade your privacy
每个人都有自己的隐私，而每个人又都有维护自己的隐私的办法。至于管不管用，就要另当别论了。其实说到隐私，似乎老外会更注意一些，比如：年龄，工资，住址，甚至婚否，这都是 我们不可以直接问的，而一旦直接问了会那么发生事情呢？”you ‘re invading his privacy”你已经侵犯他的隐私了。
2. be under a cloud
很地道的美国俚语，但是很少人会用，因为我们一直在说I’m not feeling very much,其实我们可以换一种说法来表达。比如当有人问你how are you doing recently ?的时候，请偶们就可以说： well ,I’m under a cloud(我的心情不是很好)。
3. tough
基本山所有不好的东西，我们都可以用tough 这个词来表示。比如：那个讨厌的家伙，就可以是that tough guy. ”你太粗暴了” 就可以说说成 you’re too tough.
4. tune in inside
在这里要点一下，这可不是turn in 而是tune in,实在广播中经常听到的一句话，意思是“调台”，这里主持人说if you just tune in 意思就是“刚刚听次节目的听众”。
5. The Ginsu knives
Ginsu 是在美国比较有名的刀具牌子。因为价钱不贵，样式新颖又耐用，Ginsu很快就成了大众消费品。久而久之当人们说到刀的时候很自然的就说到Ginsu Knives.
6. Are you with me?
很地道的表达方式，意思是“你在听我讲话吗?”Are you listening to me? 这种说法也是可以的。
7. A year and a half
“一年半”的意思。我们在表达“半年”这个概念时，会很自然的想到half a year。然后不假思索的把一年半说成a year and a half a year。其实这是不对的，正确的说法应为 a year and a half

Seattle
