Fire can help people in many ways. But it can also be very harmful. Fire can make water hot and house warm, give light and cook food. But fire can burn (燃烧) things, too. It can make trees, houses, animals and other things catch fire (起火). If some people can't run away from fire, it can kill them. This happens in every country every year.
Sometimes big fire can burn forests. A month ago, a large forest fire broke out in Yunnan Province. It lasted nearly half a month. The forest in Heilongjiang Province and the grassland in Inner Mongolia caught fire in May, 2006. After more than ten days' fight, over 30,000 people and soldiers put out (扑灭) the fire at last.
Nobody knows clearly when people began to make fire, but there are many interesting stories about the first time a man or a woman started a fire. One story from Australia tells about a man who went to the sun and brought fire down a long time ago. Today people know how to make a fire with matches (火柴). Children sometimes like to play with them. But matches can be very dangerous. The match can burn a piece of paper and then it can burn a house. A small fire can become a big fire, and destroy many things. Fire kills many people every year. So you must be careful with fire.

The film came out in November 2001. Now Harry Potter series (系列) is popular with people of all ages and about 60 million books were sold in 200 countries.
Why has the series been so successful? There are a few things. Many other magical stories happen in faraway lands or in past or future times. But Harry lives in modern (现代的) England. He's also a very ordinary boy: polite, friendly and clever. So when other children read about Harry, they can imagine being like him.

“Mother tells me that the most important is to study, and she almost never gives me any housework to do, though I really want some, ” said Wang, a middle school student in Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong Province.
A report says that most of Guangzhou teenagers (青少年) want to do more housework, but their parents usually do not think so. According to (根据) the report, 37% of the teenagers do housework less than half an hour every day; 39.4% of them from half an hour to one hour; 11.5% one to two hours; 5.6% over two hours; and 6.2% just have “no” housework to do.
“Most of my time after school should be spent on my homework, and I don't have time to play. Even on weekends, my parents ask me to stay at home to study. I can't go to see a film, watch TV or play with other children. My parents never say to me about anything to do with the housework. Sometimes I feel I have the duty to do something to help my parents, but they just get everything done for me,” said Yang Ming, a sixteen-year-old student.
