A short message printed at the end of a senior high school mathematics exam paper by a veteran teacher at Jiangsu Funing Middle School in East China's Jiangsu province has touched many students and netizens ahead of the national college entrance examination, commonly known as the gaokao.
"There are no more questions. Perhaps this is as far as we can walk with you."
The note appeared on the final page of a mock exam paper prepared by Chen Wenjun, a mathematics teacher with 36 years of teaching experience who is approaching retirement.
"We were all stunned when we saw it," a student recalled, adding that some classmates quietly wiped away tears in the examination room.
Chen said he did not want to place more pressure on students in their final mock exam and hoped to remind them that their teachers were always supporting them.
Students described him as strict in class but caring in daily life, saying he often kept medicine in his office and quietly comforted students after setbacks.
The message quickly spread online, with many netizens saying it reminded them of their own teachers and memories of preparing for the gaokao.
For many readers, the paper became more than an exam sheet. It was seen as a final lesson from a teacher who had spent decades accompanying students through one of the most important stages of their lives.
