A unique vegetable auction in Guding Village, Xiaba Town, Wudang District of Guiyang, Guizhou Province, has drawn widespread attention. Taiwanese Chinese singer Kenji Wu took on the role of “auctioneer,” auctioning off scallions, pea shoots, and other vegetables grown by local villagers. The buyers were merchants from various industries across Guiyang. As the gavel fell again and again, the vegetables were “sold off work,” and the atmosphere on site was lively and heartwarming.

According to CCTV News, Wu witnessed the hardships of many vegetable farmers—especially elderly ones—who take the No. 252 “Huinong” (Agriculture Support) bus line into the city in the early hours to sell their produce while he was in Guiyang. Deeply moved, he hoped to provide long-term assistance to these seniors. By posting videos online, he drew the attention of local supermarkets and restaurants. To offer practical help, Wu personally hosted the “vegetable auction,” encouraging farmers to promote their own produce. In the end, merchants purchased all 30,000 jin (about 15,000 kilograms) of vegetables, effectively solving the farmers’ sales difficulties.

To address the challenges of transporting agricultural products, the Xiaba Town government has taken proactive measures by launching two No. 252 “Huinong” bus lines. The first line began operating on June 1, 2024, and the second officially started service on January 1 this year. While these routes have made it easier for farmers to bring vegetables into the city for sale, the scattered retail model has continued to leave them facing unstable sales.

为破解农产品运输难题，下坝镇政府积极作为，已开通两条252路惠农专线。第一条专线于2024年6月1日开通，第二条则于今年1月1日正式运行。这两条专线的开通，为菜农们进城售卖蔬菜提供了便利，但零散售卖的方式仍让菜农们面临销售不稳定的问题。

On February 10, Zhou Dingyu, Party secretary of Guding Village, told reporters that villagers previously relied mainly on the “Huinong” bus line to sell their vegetables in the city. To catch the earliest bus, they often had to start preparing as early as three or four in the morning. However, because they sold produce individually, sales largely depended on luck. Sometimes, after an entire day, a basket of vegetables would remain unsold and had to be carried back home. Given the short shelf life of fresh produce, spoilage was common, causing considerable losses for the farmers.

2月10日，谷定村党支部书记周定玉向记者透露，以往村民们卖菜主要依赖惠农专线进城。为了赶上最早的车，他们可能凌晨三四点就得开始准备。然而，由于是零散售卖，销售情况往往取决于运气。有时卖了一天，一背篓的菜还卖不完，只能背回家。而蔬菜保质期短，很容易坏掉，给菜农们带来不小的损失。



By connecting merchants and organizing the auction, Wu fundamentally changed this situation by securing direct orders and signing contracts. All the vegetables were sold, and villagers no longer had to wake before dawn to struggle with uncertain sales. They now simply deliver their produce to designated locations at agreed times, saving both time and effort. Zhou admitted that Wu was the first celebrity ever to visit Guding Village. During their initial meeting, she did not even know who he was and had to look him up online, only to discover he was a Taiwanese Chinese singer. After two days of working together selling vegetables, she found him to be down-to-earth and approachable. When the sales event concluded, the village slaughtered a pig and hosted a traditional long-table banquet to express their gratitude.

吴克群此次帮助联系商家进行拍卖，直接下订单签合同，彻底改变了这一局面。蔬菜全部销出去了，村民们也不用再起早摸黑地辛苦卖菜。他们只需要按约定的时间把菜送至指定地点即可，既省时又省力。周定玉坦言，吴克群是第一个来到谷定村的明星。在双方第一次接触时，她甚至都不知道吴克群是谁，临时上网查询才发现原来是一位中国台湾歌手。在卖菜的两天接触中，她感觉吴克群非常接地气。卖菜结束后，村里还杀了头猪摆了特色的长桌宴，以表达对吴克群的感谢。

“We hope he (Kenji Wu) will have the chance to visit Guding Village again and enjoy another bowl of our sour soup,” Zhou said with anticipation. Now that cooperation between villagers and merchants has officially begun, the next step is to ensure the quality of the vegetables so that this hard-won partnership can be sustained and grow even stronger.
