At 2:00 p.m. on February 2, 2026, a memorial statue of Barbie Hsu (Xu Xiyuan), personally designed by DJ Koo Jun-yup, was officially unveiled at the Chin Pao San Cemetery in Taipei. In a light drizzle, the sculpture stood quietly, carrying deep emotion and private memories, and became a focal point for family members, close friends, and the public to commemorate the first anniversary of her passing.

The memorial statue features a dark gray marble base, with numerous symbolic elements woven into the design—symbols that belonged only to the two of them. In front of the statue are nine white S-shaped steps, while behind it stands a low S-shaped wall divided into nine sections. The number nine, a homophone for “Koo” in Korean, signifies the enduring and everlasting bond between Koo Jun-yup and Barbie Hsu. Ninety-nine pearls are embedded into the hem of the sculpture’s skirt, echoing Barbie Hsu’s fondness for pearl accessories during her lifetime and symbolizing the continuation of love and companionship. The site was chosen within the celebrity memorial area of Chin Pao San Cemetery, adjacent to the memorial of Godfrey Gao. Facing the sea and overlooking Taipei 101 in the distance, it fulfills Barbie Hsu’s wish to “live somewhere with a view of fireworks.” It is reported that Koo Jun-yup spent nearly a year personally overseeing the project, turning down work and spending extended periods at the cemetery.

纪念雕像整体以深灰色大理石为基座，设计中融入了大量只属于两人的象征符号。雕像前方铺设9级白色S形台阶，后方则是9格S形矮墙，“九”在韩语中与“具”谐音，寓意具俊晔与大S之间“长长久久”的联结。雕像裙摆中嵌入99颗珍珠，呼应大S生前钟爱的饰品风格，也象征着爱意的延续与陪伴。雕像选址于金宝山碑林名人区，毗邻高以翔纪念地，正面朝向大海，并可远眺台北101，呼应大S生前“住在能看烟花的地方”的心愿。据悉，具俊晔为这座雕像耗时近一年时间亲自监工，推掉大量工作，几乎长期驻守墓园。



On the day of the unveiling ceremony, heavy rain poured over Taipei, mirroring the weather on the day of Barbie Hsu’s burial the previous year. At the moment the statue was revealed, S’s mother broke down emotionally, throwing herself toward the sculpture and crying out, “My baby, you’ve been reborn.” Xiao S gently touched the statue, choking back tears as she whispered, “Shan, I miss you so much.” Throughout the ceremony, Koo Jun-yup supported S’s mother, looking visibly exhausted yet never leaving her side. The song Sisters’ Deep Affection, sung by Big S and Little S, played on a loop, while close friends from the famed “Seven Fairies” group sang together in remembrance. The atmosphere was somber yet restrained. Attendees included Xiao S and her husband, S’s mother, Koo Jun-yup, as well as Chen Chien-chou, Fan Fan, Tsai Kang-yong, Pace Wu, Rainie Yang, Show Lo, Vic Chou, and Jerry Yan. Koo’s former bandmate Kang Won-rae traveled from South Korea in a wheelchair specifically for the ceremony, hoping to bid farewell to the woman his dear friend loved. Afterward, S’s mother remarked that Barbie Hsu disliked strong sunlight and believed the rain was a gentle arrangement made by her daughter.

As the ceremony became public, public opinion quickly polarized. Supporters praised Koo Jun-yup for keeping vigil at the grave for nearly 365 days and for relinquishing an inheritance worth approximately NT$320 million, transferring it to Barbie Hsu’s children—actions they viewed as the ultimate expression of devotion. Critics, however, questioned his cooperation with Korean media during grave visits and cast doubt on the intentions behind the statue’s design. The Hsu family chose not to respond directly to the controversy.

Notably, Barbie Hsu’s two children did not attend the unveiling ceremony. S’s mother explained that the children are gradually emerging from their grief and are currently living in Beijing under their grandmother’s care, hoping to spare them from reliving the pain. Regarding inheritance arrangements, Koo Jun-yup has waived his legally entitled one-third share, while the children’s portions are being held in trust by their guardian, Wang Xiaofei, until they reach adulthood. The Hsu and Wang families have reached a reconciliation, with multiple parties jointly caring for the children.

值得注意的是，大S的两名子女并未出席揭幕仪式。S妈解释，孩子们正在逐渐走出阴影，目前居住在北京由奶奶照料，希望他们不必再次直面巨大的悲痛。在遗产安排方面，具俊晔已放弃其法定可继承的三分之一份额，子女的继承部分则由监护人汪小菲代管至成年。S家与汪家也已达成和解，孩子由多方共同照料。

S’s mother has previously shared that Xiao S’s achievement in winning the Golden Bell Award has, in some sense, helped fill the void left by the loss of her sister. This rain-soaked unveiling ceremony may well symbolize the family’s ongoing effort to reconcile with life after loss—moving forward while carrying cherished memories with them.
