Niu Li has never been idle in her life, always making a name for herself in different fields. Born in 1972, her father worked in the Air Force and her mother was a national-level shooting champion. In her early years, she was picky about food, favoring meat and refusing to touch vegetables, which made her shorter than her peers. Concerned, her parents sent her to a swimming team in 1984. Though unaccustomed at first, she quickly adapted and helped the team win the national synchronized swimming team championship in 1986. She then switched to shooting, taking third place nationally in 1989 and winning the military championship in 1990. After the shooting team disbanded, she turned to acting and was admitted to the People's Liberation Army Art Academy.
