The White House said Tuesday that President Donald Trump is "discussing a range of options" to acquire Greenland, making clear that using the US military is not off the table.

"President Trump has made it well known that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority of the United States, and it's vital to deter our adversaries in the Arctic region," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a Tuesday statement.

Asked about Greenland in a recent New York Times interview, Trump said that "ownership is very important".

Ownership is "what I feel is psychologically needed for success", Trump said. "I think that ownership gives you a thing that you can't do with, you're talking about a lease or a treaty. Ownership gives you things and elements that you can't get from just signing a document."

US officials have discussed sending lump sum payments to Greenlanders as part of a bid to convince them to secede from Denmark and potentially join the United States, according to four sources familiar with the matter.

While the exact dollar figure and logistics of any payment are unclear, US officials, including White House aides, have discussed figures ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 per person, said two of the sources, who requested anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.

此外，卡拉斯还在当天的新闻发布会上透露，欧盟内部已经开始商讨针对美方可能的武力威胁的应对措施。

The EU has discussed what a European response would look like if the US threat on acquiring Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory, is real, European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Thursday.

"The messages that we hear regarding Greenland are extremely concerning," Kallas told reporters at a press briefing with Egypt's Foreign Affairs Minister Badr Abdelatty in Cairo.
