央视新闻消息，当地时间17日，美国白宫新闻秘书莱维特表示，不会将自由女神像送回法国。

据法媒报道，此前，法国社会党欧洲议会议员格鲁克斯曼（Raphaël Glucksmann）16日呼吁法国政府收回位于美国纽约港自由岛的自由女神像，他说：“美国不再体现自由女神像所代表的价值观。”

A French politician said Sunday the US should give back the Statue of Liberty in an apparent critique of President Donald Trump's leadership.

"We're going to say to the Americans who have chosen to side with the tyrants, to the Americans who fired researchers for demanding scientific freedom: 'Give us back the Statue of Liberty,'" said French member of the European Parliament Raphaël Glucksmann on Sunday, according to local outlet France 24.

当地时间17日，美国白宫新闻秘书莱维特对此回应称，绝对不会将自由女神像还给法国。她回怼说，“对那位不知名的、低级别的法国政客的建议是，提醒他们，正是因为美国，法国人现在才不用说德语。所以他们应该感恩。”

"Absolutely not," said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt in a briefing Monday when asked if the US would give it back. "My advice to that unnamed, low-level French politician would be to remind them that it's only because of the United States of America that the French are not speaking German right now. So they should be very grateful to our great country."

自由女神像是法国送给美国的礼物，以纪念美国《独立宣言》发表100周年。雕像于1886年揭幕。
