On Tuesday, Apple Maps officially changed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, the change comes in the footsteps of Google Maps' change on Monday.
Bloomberg reported the change would be rolled out to users in the US first before being rolled out globally.
The body of water formerly known in the United States as the Gulf of Mexico is now listed for US-based users of Google Maps as the Gulf of America.
"People using Maps in the US will see 'Gulf of America', and people in Mexico will see 'Gulf of Mexico'. Everyone else will see both names," it said in a statement Monday.
The Associated Press said the White House blocked it from covering an official event in the Oval Office on Tuesday because it did not refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.
"It is alarming that the Trump administration would punish AP for its independent journalism," AP Executive Editor Julie Pace wrote in a statement posted on its website. "Limiting our access to the Oval Office based on the content of AP's speech not only severely impedes the public's access to independent news, it plainly violates the First Amendment."
