A fatal shooting on a New York City subway train Sunday killed a man and [bla...] police say they are searching for a suspect. AP correspondent Julie Walker reports.

Police say no one else was hurt. The 48 year-old man was riding a Q train from Brooklyn to Manhattan. Shortly before noon, it was crossing the bridge and heading to Canal Street when the shooting happened, says NYPD Chief of Department Kenneth Corey.

"... the suspect was walking back and forth in the same train car and without provocation, pulled out a gun and fired it at the victim at close range."

He says they have surveillance video from the station and spoken to witnesses.

"... what we've got from the witnesses, there is no prior contact between the victim and the suspect."

A man last moth set off a smoke grenade on a Brooklyn train and shot 10 people. No one was killed.

A military cargo plane carrying the first shipment of infant formula from Europe to help address a critical shortage in the United States landed on Sunday and the White House said a second flight has been arranged.

A February 17 recall by top baby formula maker Abbott Laboratories and the closing of its manufacturing plant during an investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has created one of the biggest infant formula shortages in a recent history for U.S. families.

President Joe Biden's administration is seeking to stock empty shelves with 1.5 million containers of Nestlé specialty infant formulas. Biden last week invoked the Cold War-era Defense Production Act to help increase supplies.

The White House said on Sunday a second flight carrying formula would leave from Ramstein Air Force Base in the coming days.

Scientists who have monitored the monkeypox virus in Western Africa are baffled by its recent spread around the world. VOA's Diane Roberts reports.

Cases have previously been seen only among people with links to Africa. But in the past week, cases have popped up in Britain, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, the United States and Canada. Most of the reported infections have been found in young men who hadn't previously traveled to Africa.

No one has so far died from the outbreak and scientists in Britain are investigating whether the disease is being sexually transmitted.
