At least 15 people have been shot dead in anti-coup protests in Sudan as thousands of Sudanese took to the streets on the deadliest day in a month of demonstrations against military rule.

Footage showed thousands of people marching through the streets of Khartoum, chanting "revolution" and carrying banners calling for people to overthrow the military coup.

Security forces fired live ammunition and tear gas at protesters in at least one location in Khartoum.

The U.N.'s atomic watchdog says it believes Iran has further increased its stockpile of highly enriched uranium in a breach of a 2015 accord with world powers. AP correspondent Frank Jordans reports.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said in its reports that it estimates Iran now has a stockpile of 17.7 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 60 percent of purity. This level of highly enriched uranium can be further refined to make atomic weapons, which is why world powers are very sensitive to this work by Iran.

Experts are using words like "devastating" and "terrible" to describe the number of Americans who are dying from drug overdoses. AP's Rita Foley reports.

Drug overdoses now surpass deaths from car crashes, guns and even flu and pneumonia. About 100,000 Americans died of drug overdoses in the year ending in April of 2021, according to the CDC. That's a never-before-seen tragic milestone.

The top two reasons: the COVID pandemic which left many people socially isolated and the availability of the highly lethal fentanyl which drug dealers are mixing with other drugs, say health experts.

"2021," says one drug policy expert, "is gonna be terrible."
