BBC Olympic English 47 – ILLNESS生病
3-Minute English Lesson Script三分钟英语
Diarmuid: Hello and welcome to Olympic English from BBC Learning English. I’m Diarmuid.
Jean: And I’m Jean.
Diarmuid: Today’s lesson is all about illness.
Jean: 是的,在我们今天的节目中,我们要和大家集中学习一下形容生病的英语表达。 Now Diarmuid, what do we say if somebody looks ill?
Diarmuid: Well, we usually ask a question. So we can say: “What’s the matter?”
Jean: “What’s the matter?” “怎么了? ”
Diarmuid: Or: “What’s wrong?”
Jean: “What’s wrong?” “有什么不对吗? ”And how do we reply to that?
Diarmuid: Well, if we want to talk generally about not feeling well we can say “I feel unwell”.
Jean: “ I feel unwell” “我觉得不舒服 ”。
Diarmuid: Or “I don’t feel too good”.
Jean: “I don’t feel too good” “我觉得不太好受 ”Ok, but how about if I want to describe a pain in a particular part of my body?
Diarmuid: Well for some kinds of pain we can use the word ‘ache’...
Jean: Ok, so “I’ve got a headache” “我头痛 ”.
Diarmuid: Yes or “I’ve got a toothache”.
Jean: “I’ve got a toothache” “我牙痛”.
Diarmuid: or “I’ve got a stomach-ache”.
Jean: “I’ve got a stomach-ache” “我肚子痛 ”I see, and how do we talk about other parts of the body?
Diarmuid: Well, if we want to talk about pain in other parts of the body we often use the verb ‘hurt’.
Jean: I see. So I could say “My arm hurts” 我的胳膊痛 .
Diarmuid: That’s right or “My neck hurts”.
Jean: “My neck hurts” 我的脖子痛 .
Example 1
A: What’s the matter?
B: I’ve got a backache.
A: Oh you should have a rest then!
Example 2
A: What’s wrong?
B: I’ve hurt my foot.
A: Let’s go to the doctor then.
Diarmuid: Very good. You might also want to describe some symptoms of your illness.
Jean:你可能还需要形容你的一些症状。
Diarmuid: Yes so we might say “I’ve got a bad cough”.
Jean: “I’ve got a bad cough” 我咳嗽得很厉害。
Diarmuid: That’s right, or you could also say “I’ve got a sore throat”.
Jean: “I’ve got a sore throat” 我的喉咙肿痛 . Well with those symptoms you might have a cold then?
Diarmuid: That’s right, so then we could say “I’ve caught a cold”.
Jean: “I’ve caught a cold” 我得了感冒了 and that’s very different from “I’m cold” 我觉得冷 isn’t it?
Diarmuid: It is indeed and in fact Jean, all this talk has made me feel a bit unwell!
Jean: Oh dear! You’d better go and lie down then Diarmuid!
Diarmuid: I think I will! So we hope to see you all next time too as that’s all from BBC Olympic English for today. So, see you soon with more elementary English. See you next time.
Dialogue 1 对话:
Yang: Oh you look awful! What’s the matter?
Tom: Oh! I feel really under the weather. I’ve got a sore throat and a bad cough
Yang: Oh dear. Maybe you’ve caught a cold
Tom: Yes, I’ve had lots of overtime to do recently and I haven’t slept much at all.
Yang: Well then, you should get some rest this weekend and don’t go out drinking.
Tom: Yes, I think you’re right!
Dialogue 2 对话:
Doctor: Hello -what can I do for you today?
Patient: Well, I’ve got a terrible stomach-ache and I keep needing the toilet.
Doctor: I see. Well, with those symptoms maybe you’ve got food poisoning. What have you eaten recently?
Patient: Well, I went to a seafood restaurant last night and I ate lots of oysters.
Doctor: Hmm. It may be those then, especially if they were raw. Well I’ll give you these tablets and you should feel fine by tomorrow.
Patient: Ok. Thank you very much.
