Vision Defender: iGlasses
1. Introduction
Nowadays, most students have vision problems in varying degrees. In SM2 14th batch, for example, there are percent students are suffering from myopia. 1) Therefore, the writers aim to modify glasses to protect students’ vision. According to scientific study [1], the significant environmental factors, which lead to myopia, are low light intensity and improper distance between eyes and reading materials. In the following parts, the writers will focus on the modification, iGlasses, including its criteria, working principles, and its strengths compared to conventional glasses.
2.1 Criteria
I. Appearance
iGlasses has a similar appearance as conventional glasses. However, its spectacle frame is thicker. Besides, it contains LED lights, a laser range finder, a USB interface and a pair of earphones, which conventional glasses do not have.
II. Weight
Referring to other function glasses, the weight of iGlasses is approximately 80g. [2]
III. Materials
The materials that iGlasses needs are resin, plastic and magnesium aluminium alloy.
IV. Components
iGlasses contains a spectacle frame, a pair of resin lens, an integrated circuit, a charging system, two LED lights, an ambient light sensor, a laser range finder, a pair of earphones and a mini vibrator.
2.2 Description
I. Product name: iGlasses
II. Modification
First, the spectacle frame is thicker than the normal ones. Secondly, a laser range finder and two LED lights with an ambient light sensor are on both sides of the frame respectively. In addition, there is a mini vibrator, a pair of earphones and a mini USB interface at the end of the frame.
III. Working principles
i. Laser range finder[3]
The laser range finder attached to iGlasses can emit laser automatically every five minutes, and measure the time interval between emitting light and reflecting light. With the speed of laser light and time interval, the laser range finder can calculate the distance between iGlasses and the reading materials
ii. Earphones and vibrator
The integrated circuit will compare the real distance with the set distance. If the error interval of distance is over 5 cm, the earphones or the vibrator will give and alert.
iii. LED lights and ambient light sensor
The ambient light sensor will detect light intensity around the reader. If it is in poor light, the sensor will send a signal to the LED lights, and the light will automatically emit proper level of light.
iv. USB interface
Using the USB interface, consumers can connect iGlasses with computer so that they can set the suitable standard distances as well as charge iGlasses.
3 Conclusion
Compared to conventional glasses on the market, iGlasses can sufficiently prevent myopia and avoid degeneration of myopia. Besides, iGlasses can create a healthier environment for your reading. As the increase of myopic people, the market demand of iGlasses is increasing. There is no doubt that iGlasses will gradually become the first choice for people. Moreover, we can extend its entertainment functions and vary its appearance, which must attract young men’s eyes.
